Our municipal and private sector customers increasingly ask us to demonstrate that we deserve their business by making sustainability a part of our way of operating. These customers want to deal with suppliers who share sustainability goals and document progress to attain them. One important way to demonstrate achievement in sustainability is recognition by well-known outside groups who focus on sustainability metrics.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and the FTSE4Good Index Series are among the most highly regarded institutions rating company sustainability goals and progress.
We are proud to have been named Sector Leader for Waste and Disposal Services for both DJSI North America and the World. Launched in 1999, the DJSI is comprised of companies across all industries that outperform their peers in numerous sustainability metrics, including corporate governance, risk management, energy efficiency and occupational health and safety.
We are also honored to have been evaluated as among the top 10 percent of industrial companies by the CDP for our efforts to reduce emissions and mitigate the risks of climate change. The CDP, an international, not-for-profit organization, represents 655 institutional investors with $78 trillion in assets.
Our company will be added to the FTSE4Good Index Series. Launched in 2001, the FTSE4Good Index Series is a series of benchmark and tradable indices for responsible investors derived from the globally recognized FTSE Global Equity Index Series. By using the FTSE4Good Index Series, investors gain assurance that companies in their portfolios are also evolving to meet new global challenges as they arise.
We will continue to work with our customers and community partners to meet our company’s sustainability goals in recycling, renewable energy generation, energy efficiency and land conservation. Our progress against these commitments can be found on http://www.wm.com/sustainability/index.jsp.
